Indigenous North America at SXSW 2015
Astronomar, Tanya Tagaq, Scatter Their Own, Sihasin, and John Trudell have official showcases at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas this year (March 17-22). The event is dubbed one of the largest, most influential, and most anticipated music events of the year and each of the acts will be vying for media attention and interest from labels, agents, manager, publishers, presenters, and music supervisors.
It's not uncommon for Indigenous artists to be participating in the annual mega festival, but this year's group of performers will be taking SXSW stages supported by some pretty big hitters, including Diplo's Mad Decent imprint, the World Music Expo (WOMEX), and RYOT. Along with the name recognition and credibility, each of these supporters bring their own networks of industry operators to the table, which will definitely help the acts distinguish themselves from the 2,300 other bands competing for hearts and minds at SXSW.
Rising star, and Aboriginal Music Week 2014 performer, Logan Staats is also on site at SXSW this year. You can follow his journey through the festival on his Facebook fan page.
The performance details for each of the Indigenous acts is listed below.
