Call for Submissions: Aboriginal Music Week 2016

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 4 PM CST on Thursday, December 10, 2015

Aboriginal Music Manitoba will be producing the eighth annual Aboriginal Music Week in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada next summer. The organization is currently accepting applications from First Nation, Inuit, Métis, Native American, and Indigenous recording artists for performance spots. The festival is scheduled for August 9 - 13, 2016 and includes:

  • Five big community celebrations
  • Four lunch-hour concerts
  • Two networking events for artists
  • An open mic
  • A closing night party

Submission Form: (Submissions are now closed)

Important Notes

  • Most performance opportunities are at family events and community gatherings, so music with explicit language may not be accepted.
  • Incomplete submissions will not be considered (simply sending a link to a Sonicbids profile or website is insufficient).
  • The Aboriginal Music Week programming committee will review all submissions in December.
  • Only successful applicants will be contacted.
  • Artists will receive performance fees, but travel funds are limited.

Submission Requirements

To be considered for a performance spot, artists must:

  • Have music streaming on SoundCloud (the committee will listen to the most recent songs).
  • Have at least two professional print-resolution photographs available for download.
  • Have at least one video on YouTube or Vimeo showcasing performance and sound.
  • Be active on Twitter and participate in the festival's Twitter campaign.
  • Be able to book their own flights (the festival may provide a flight buyout but will not handle bookings).
  • Be willing to participate in the open mic during the festival.
  • Attend the festival's networking events.
  • Be a nice person and represent the community positively.

What Makes a Submission Stand Out

  • High-quality music available on SoundCloud.
  • Excellent promotional photos.
  • Confirmed interest from other festivals, presenters, or communities for bookings in August.
