JUNOFest 2016 details announced, seven Aboriginal acts set to perform

Singer/songwriter Don Amero, competition drum group Black Bear, critically acclaimed poet Shane Koyczan, country artist Armond Duck Chief, folk music legend Buffy Sainte-Marie, rock star Derek Miller, and innovative cellist Cris Derksen are among the performers announced for JUNOFest 2016 in Calgary, Alberta. The annual music festival is set for March 31 - April 2 and it will feature concerts at 22 venues throughout the city.

JUNOFest is one part of the JUNO Week celebrations, set for March 28 - April 3. The entire event is anchored by the 45th annual JUNO Awards, which will be held at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday, April 3 and broadcast live on national television by CTV.

Amero, Duck Chief, Black Bear, Sainte-Marie, and Miller are nominated in the Aboriginal Album of the Year category; Derksen's Orchestral Powwow is in the running for Instrumental Album of the Year; Amero has a second chance in the Adult Contemporary Album of the Year category; and, Sainte-Marie picked up additional nominations in the Contemporary Roots Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year categories. 

The Aboriginal Album of the Year category is sponsored by the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network and the winner will be announced at the JUNO Gala Dinner & Awards on Saturday, April 2. 

JUNOfest wristbands are on sale now for $30 (plus tax and service fees) and provide priority access to all participating JUNOfest venues.
