IndigiFemme Urban Music Festival 2024
We're excited to present The Kaptain at the inaugural IndigiFemme Urban Music Festival in Treaty Six Territory on Saturday, August 17. The mentorship-based teaching and learning event will include a free workshop and panel discussion during the day along with a ticketed concert in the evening.
"It has always been my dream to host talented musicians that create urban music genres like hip hop and identify as women/two-spirit/non-binary/LGBTQ+ and Indigenous," explains festival founder Lindsay Knight. "As a hip hop artist I have always struggled to exist, but I hope that this festival will help others follow their creative paths with less resistance."
The day will begin at 10:00 AM with an opening ceremony at the Gordon Oakes Centre in the University of Saskatchewan, everyone is welcome, admission is free, registration is not required, and lunch will be provided. A workshop focused on mental health will round out the morning's agenda and Knight (also known as Eekwol), Quanah Style, T-Rhyme, and The Kaptain will kick off the afternoon with a panel discussion, entitled I Just Wanna Vibe! The Challenges of Indigenous Femmes in Music, at 1:00 PM. The daytime programming will conclude with a talking circle and closing ceremony.
The evening will be anchored by performances at the Capitol Music Club. Admission is $20, guests need to be 19 years of age and older, comedian Shy Sapp will host the concert, and Quanah Style, The Kaptain, Eekwol, T-Rhyme, and Lili and Happy Jamaly will be taking the stage.
