Alan's top three picks for Planet IndigenUS

August 9, 2012

Alan Greyeyes is the Aboriginal Music Week chairperson and one of the people responsible for programming the festival. Here's his top three picks for Planet IndigenUS this year.

1. A Tribe Called Red in Concert
Saturday, Aug. 11 at 11 p.m.

OKA (Australia)
Sunday, Aug. 12 at 3 p.m.
Concert details:

Alan: I wish OKA and A Tribe Called Red were on the same stage. Both groups are great at getting people on the dance floor (plus some of their band members look alike). That would be a cool show, but checking both concerts should be just as fun.

2. Pacific Curls (New Zealand)
Saturday, Aug.11 at 4 p.m.

Alan: The Pacific Curls are great performers and I love their music. I think some of the coolest traditional music comes out of New Zealand.

3. “Aboriginal Recording of the Year” Juno Panel
Saturday, Aug. 18 at 5 p.m
Details:

Alan: I would check this out because the Aboriginal category at the JUNO Awards is an interesting thing. In the context of the JUNOs, I think the category is meant to recognize outstanding recordings that feature Aboriginal elements, but each year the Aboriginal music community reclaims the category and the most deserving Aboriginal artist is acknowledged. It's always interesting to hear what other people think

Planet IndigenUS features a number of other great events with performances by Digging Roots, Kinnie Starr, Derek Miller, Leela Gilday, George Leach, Winnipeg's Most, and many others. Visit harbourfrontcentre.com for more information.
