Aboriginal Music Week 2012 performers earn 12 APCMA nominations
Aboriginal Music Week 2012 (AMW2012) performers Murray Porter, Don Amero, LightningCloud, Tanya Tagaq, Cris Derksen, Gary Farmer & The Troublemakers, and IsKwé have earned nominations for the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards (APCMA) this year. The announcement was made by the Manito Ahbee Festival on August 13 during a press conference in Winnipeg.
Murray Porter leads the way for the AMW group with nominations in the Best Blues CD, Single of the Year, Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year, and Aboriginal Male Entertainer of the Year. His Songs Lived and Life Played album earned him a JUNO Award earlier this year (details).
Don Amero is next in line with three nominations for his Long Way Home album (Best Pop CD), his "Turn These Grey Skies Blue" song (Single of the Year), and his accomplishments in the industry (Aboriginal Male Entertainer of the Year).
LA-based hip hop duo LightningCloud's debut album is in the running for Best Rap / Hip Hop CD, throat-singer extraordinaire Tanya Tagaq has been nominated for Aboriginal Female Entertainer of the Year, cellist Cris Derksen is competing for Best Music Video, Gary Farmer & The Troublemakers has a chance to take home the APCMA for Best Blues CD, and IsKwé's "Wandering" in up for Single of the Year.
AMW2012 is set for October 30 - November 4 in Winnipeg. Eight concerts, featuring 15 artists, have been unveiled so far and the festival plans to announced four additional events along with another 15 artists at the end of August.
