The full festival lineup for Aboriginal Music Week 2012

August 23, 2012

Keith Secola

We're proud to announce the full festival lineup for Aboriginal Music Week 2012. A total of 34 artists and bands will be hitting our stages in Winnipeg for five special nights, beginning on October 30.

The festival will kick off with performances by innovative throat singer Tanya Tagaq and spoken word artist Moe Clark on Tuesday, October 30 followed by a free SAFE Halloween concert featuring Wab Kinew and pop singer Savannah Rae Boyko the next night.

The festival will hit high gear on Thursday with concerts at the West End Cultural Centre, the Windsor Hotel, and the Pyramid Cabaret on the agenda. The first concert will feature Oklahoma-based folk singer Samantha Crain and cellist Cris Derksen. Don Amero will host an open mic at the Windsor Hotel so that all the artists have a place to jam on Thursday night, while a late night hip hop celebration featuring Feenix, Drezus, OBT, JB the First Lady, Tommy Da, the Low Key Music Group, and Primetime Empyre is set for the Pyramid Cabaret.

A Tribe Called Red is bringing the Electric Pow Wow back to Aboriginal Music Week on Firday night with Brazilian global bass queen Zuzuka Poderosa getting the night started. JUNO Award winning blues musician Murray Porter will headline the entertainment at the Windsor Hotel with Alaskan-born folk rocker Silver Jackson on board for two sets earlier in the evening. The first of two Fire In the Sky concerts is also slated for November 2 with Wayne Lavallee, BODM, Randy Sibbeston & Wild Meat, Saali, and Gabriel Ayala hitting the stage.

Saturday night's entertainment gets started with an all ages hip hop concert featuring Tha Link (Jon-C and Blu) and IsKwé. Guitar legend Stevie Salas is set to headline the biggest night of the festival at the Pyramid Cabaret after all the kids have gone to bed, with LA-based hip hop duo LightningCloud and festival favorite Joey Stylez also on the bill. The Windsor Hotel will play host to Gary Farmer & The Troublemakers along with country singer Nathan Cunningham and local heros the Joe Maxim Band. The second and final Fire In The Sky concert will end it all with a bang as Indian country icon Keith Secola is coming in to rock the Regal Beagle. He'll be joined by Leanne Goose & Snow BlindPriscilla’s Revenge, and Scatter Their Own.

Tickets will go on sale in the next couple weeks. Prices range from free to $25 for advance purchases.

The Aboriginal Music Week Festival Pass is already on sale. $100 gets you in to all 12 concerts and saves you $75 on the complete festival experience.

Please visit each of the artist's pages for more information along with videos and links to their online profiles.
