- Aboriginal Music Week and RPM.FM team up for exclusive mixtape Aboriginal Music Week and RPM.FM have teamed up to produce an exclusive mixtape with tracks by the urban and electronic artists set to takeover the festival this summer. Tall Paul, Hellnback, Mariame, T-Rhyme, Mic Jordan, Exquisite Ghost, and mixtape masterer Boogey The Beat each lended music to the project, which is available for streaming on the RPM.FM SoundCloud page.
- International artists to help locals expand overseas during Aboriginal Music Week 2015 With the help of the Canada Council for the Arts, Aboriginal Music Manitoba (AMM) is bringing three international artists to Winnipeg for five days of one-on-one mentor meetings with local musicians and acts performing at Aboriginal Music Week 2015. Maisey Rika and Tama Waipara will be available for hour long meetings about the markets for performances by Indigenous artists in New Zealand while Benny Walker will do the same for the markets in Australia.
- AMW expands to Point Douglas with award winner, chart toppers, and rising star Aboriginal Music Manitoba (AMM) is excited to announce that it will be partnering with the North Point Douglas Women's Centre (NPDWC) on a fourth free community celebration during Aboriginal Music Week 2015. The event, dubbed the Aboriginal Music Week Stage at the Austin Street Festival, will mirror the format of Aboriginal Music Week's other community celebrations with music workshops, activities for kids, a free BBQ, and a big concert featuring performances by First Nation, Métis, and Inuit acts from across Canada.
- Hashtag Indigenous Excellence: Once a Tree Toronto-based duo Once a Tree just published a music video for their debut single "Howling" and it's moving equally well on YouTube as the track did on SoundCloud, racking up more than 15,000 views in it's first four days online.
- "Suplex" drops with EP, video, and t-shirt A Tribe Called Red released a four track EP, music video, and a gamer inspired t-shirt under the "Suplex" banner today. The music can be purchased on iTunes, the video is available on YouTube, and the t-shirt can be purchased on the group's website.
- Hashtag Indigenous Excellence: Mariame We're launching a new blog series to shine a spotlight on some of the up-and-comers across the Indigenous music stratosphere. The "Hashtag Indigenous Excellence" posts will be published as much as humanly possible and they'll draw your attention to Indigenous excellence in music around the globe. Our first HashtagIE feature artist is a Cree pop/R&B singer, based in Montreal, Quebec named Mariame.
- Nightclub, event listings for the 2015 GON weekend Outside the gates of the worlds largest competition pow wow, some of Native America's top DJ's, rappers, and up-and-coming bands congregate each April for three-to-four nights of great entertainment in jam packed nightclubs and art spaces spread across downtown Albuquerque. This year is no different as LightningCloud, A Tribe Called Red, Derek Miller, Miracle Dolls, DJ Wreck, Brian Frejo, Chase Manhattan, Nataanii Means, and a host have gigs spread out among nine incredible events.
- A Tribe Called Red's "Suplex" among latest MuchFACT fund recipients A Tribe Called Red's online music video application for "Suplex" was among the 28 fund recipients announced by Bell Media's MuchFACT (A Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent) in Toronto today. The foundation received 293 submissions for it's March 12, 2015 deadline and awarded $614,400 in support after two days of adjudication this week.
- Indigenous North America at SXSW 2015 It's not uncommon for Indigenous artists to be participating in the annual mega festival, but this year's group of performers will be hitting SXSW stages supported by some pretty big hitters, including Diplo's Mad Decent imprint, the World Music Expo (WOMEX), and RYOT.
- Oogimah Ikwewok at Manitoba Music on Ice Aboriginal Music Week is set to present the Oogimah Ikwewok singers at the Windcatcher hut on Winnipeg's Assiniboine River during the Louis Riel Day weekend. The performances are set for Sunday, February 15 from 1 - 4 p.m. and the traditional singers have two performance times.
