Aboriginal Music Mixtape Volume 5 now available

Volume 5 of Aboriginal Music Manitoba’s Aboriginal Music Mixtape features songs from Shy-Anne Hovorka, Lorenzo & Charlie Fettah, Madeskimo, Savannah, John J. Cook, and the Miracle Dolls. The songs will be available until September 1, 2011 and all you need to do to get them is sign up at the bottom of the www.ammb.ca/mix page with your name and email address.

The mixtape series is one of the ways that Aboriginal Music Manitoba introduces audiences to some of the great music coming out of the Aboriginal music community at home and abroad. A new mixtape will be released every three months with up to eight songs from Indigenous artists working in any and all genres.

Miracle Dolls is an Alternative / Punk / Indie band from Southern California. The band is a trio fronted by twin sisters. The name “Miracle Dolls” came from an aspiration their mother had. Miracle Dolls performed on the Warped Tour. Their record "This System" was produced by Oingo Boingos John Avila.

Lorenzo is an Anishinaabe MC from the Little Saskatchewan First Nation located in Interlake Region of Manitoba. He provides perspective from a voice often unheard and over-looked in the traditional music communities: truthful, insightful, and providing a new sound straight from ‘the Rezzy’. His music is best described as a fusion of Hip-Hop, Country and Rhythm & Blues. His lyrics are both intricate and honest, combined with his heart, message into a raspy flow that growls with the bittersweet existential angst of Reservation Indian. On stage, he captivates crowds with a guitar slung over his shoulder, singing and rhyming to the beats, allowing his style to be enjoyed by people who typically "aren't into rap."

John J. Cook is Rocky Cree from Southend, Saskatchewan. He is a musician for all generations and he sings and writes about what he knows best, the pros and cons of LOVE and LIFE.

Northwestern Ontario singer/songwrtier, Shy-Anne Hovorka was voted 2010 Female Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year, and 2010 Best Produced Album has 2 complete albums, with multiple music nominations on both. She also received a Citizen's Award in 2010 for all her work for youth through her music, as well as the Young Alumni Award with Lakehead University in 2011, where she obtained her music and education degree from. Shy-Anne is currently working on a 3rd album, which will include the single "Superstar".

Madeskimo represents electronic music from our northern regions blending a variety of original and sourced sound samples with smooth synthesizers and original use of digital effects - for example throat singing samples mixed to modern and edgy beats and ambient soundscapes.
