December 4, 2012

Kinnie Starr

Kinnie Starr is taking her new album to the people. The iconic emcee/singer/songwriter is asking fans for financial contributions to help her manufacture and market her sixth full length album entitled Kiss It. Contribution levels range from $10 to $10.000, with each amount tied to a number of great benefits.

"Doing things independently has been very rewarding creatively, but it sure is a challenge on the business side," says Starr. "I desperately want to get this new album out, which I think is current and fun and talks about a lot of things that need to be talked about. I’m really proud of it."

The campaign is running on the indiegogo.com website and Starr has set a $25,000 goal.

The benefits include vinyl options, house concerts, private readings, limited edition original artwork, one of her custom PRS guitars, along with a number of other items and engagements.

The "crowdfunding" approach to releasing an album is becoming increasingly popular with recording artists. While the costs to record, manufacture, distribute, and market an album continue to increase, the resources that record labels can afford to dedicate to albums continues to decrease, leaving a pretty sizeable financial gap.
