Introducing Common Ground
The sākihiwē festival is partnering with the Winnipeg Folk Festival, the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM), the West End Cultural Centre, and Central Neighbourhoods Winnipeg to launch a new miniseries, entitled Common Ground. These concerts will feature performances by Indigenous artists and artists from newcomer communities in Winnipeg and IRCOM will be setting up projectors and screens at two of their housing locations to give families access to the performances.
Shanley Spence and Boogey The Beat will perform together for the first concert on Wednesday, August 12. They'll share the bill with the Dr. Henry Band and everything is set for a 6:00 PM CDT start time.
Soul singer Ed Riley and singer-songwriter Kelly Bado will take the stage the following week with a similar schedule, beginning at 6:00 PM CDT and ending at 8:00 PM CDT.
Each concert will broadcast for free from the West End Cultural Centre and the streams will be available on the sākihiwē festival's YouTube channel and Facebook page.
Watch "Ya U / Pit" by Ed Riley (warning: explicit lyrics).
