Common Ground Miniseries

The sākihiwē festival is partnering with the Winnipeg Folk Festival (opens in new tab), the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM) (opens in new tab), the West End Cultural Centre (opens in new tab), and Central Neighbourhoods Winnipeg (opens in new tab) to launch a new miniseries, entitled Common Ground. These concerts will feature performances by Indigenous artists and artists from newcomer communities in Winnipeg, and IRCOM will set up projectors and screens at two of their housing locations to give families access to the performances.

Shanley Spence (opens in new tab) and Boogey The Beat (opens in new tab) will perform together for the first concert on Wednesday, August 12. They'll share the bill with the Dr. Henry Band and everything is set for a 6:00 PM CDT start time.

Soul singer Ed Riley (opens in new tab) and singer-songwriter Kelly Bado (opens in new tab) will take the stage the following week with a similar schedule, beginning at 6:00 PM CDT and ending at 8:00 PM CDT.

Each concert will broadcast for free from the West End Cultural Centre, and the streams will be available on the sākihiwē festival’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Watch "Ya U / Pit" by Ed Riley (warning: explicit lyrics).
