Aboriginal Music Manitoba (AMM) is excited to announce a new partnership with the North Point Douglas Women's Centre (NPDWC) for a fourth free community celebration at Aboriginal Music Week 2015.
The event, called the Aboriginal Music Week Stage at the Austin Street Festival, will follow the format of other community celebrations, featuring music workshops, activities for kids, a free BBQ, and a concert showcasing First Nation, Métis, and Inuit artists from across Canada.
Featured Performers
Ali Fontaine
Award-winning country singer from Sagkeeng First Nation, Manitoba. She won Best New Artist and Best Country CD at the 2011 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards.
Rock band from Ahtahkakoop First Nation, Saskatchewan. Their latest single, Memories, hit #1 on the National Aboriginal Music Countdown earlier this year.
Pop singer from Montreal, Quebec. She released her debut album, Bloom, on May 26, and her music video for the lead single gained 18,000+ views in its first month on YouTube.
"The main goal of Aboriginal Music Week is to develop Aboriginal youth as an audience for live music," says AMM chairperson Alan Greyeyes. "We found that the best way to do this is by bringing music to the community instead of expecting them to come to us. This new partnership allows us to reach even more young people in Winnipeg."
