- Call for Submissions: Aboriginal Music Week 2013 SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Wednesday, December 19, 2012 (in office – not post marked) Aboriginal Music Manitoba will be producing the fifth annual Aboriginal Music Week in Winnipeg from August 16 - 21, 2013 and the organization is currently accepting applications from Aboriginal and Native American recording artists for performance spots. The 2013 festival schedule will include outdoor stages and nightclub concerts in Winnipeg. Artists will receive performance fees but travel funds are limited.
- A Youtube tour of the next three nights of Aboriginal Music Week 2012 Aboriginal Music Week 2012 is up and running. Tanya Tagaq and Moe Clark turned in moving performances on Opening Night and 2,056 trick-or-treaters came to Safe Halloween for free candy and performances by Wab Kinew, Savannah Rae Boyko, and DJ Shub. We have three more big nights set for November 1, 2, and 3. Check out the videos below for a taste of what we got on deck.
- Special Showcase Spot at Aboriginal Music Week 2012 Aboriginal Music Week 2012 just opened up a special showcase spot at the Pyramid Cabaret on Saturday, November 3. The lucky artist or band will receive an opportunity to perform at the Saturday Night 49er presented by NCI FM, which features LightningCloud, Joey Styles, and rock god Stevie Salas.
- A Tribe Called Red confirmed for globalFEST 2013 globalFEST just announced that A Tribe Called Red will be one of the 11 acts performing at the prestigious tastemakers' festival in New York City this January, That makes two MAJOR showcase opportunities for the boys this year (they're currently on their way to Greece for the WOMEX conference's DJ Summit).
- Free funding information session during Aboriginal Music Week 2012 The Canada Council for the Arts and Manitoba Music are hosting a funding information sessions in Winnipeg during Aboriginal Music Week 2012! If you have been dreaming up music projects or simply need help travelling to a festival gig, you should attend this session.
- A Tribe Called Red announce 16 date Fall tour A Tribe Called Red is going on tour this Fall and they just announced 16 dates in Canada, the UK, Greece, and the US.
- DJ Shub competing for world domination tonight! A Tribe Called Red's DJ Shub is competing for world domination at the Red Bull Thre3style World Finals tonight (September 29, 2012) in Chicago. Shub earned his spot at the final table after defeating DJs from New Zealand, Poland, Bolivia, and Braziil in the third preliminary round of the Thre3style competition on Thursday night.
- The NCI Jam set for Saturday, September 22 The NCI Jam is set for the Pantages Playhouse in downtown Winnipeg on Saturday, September 22, 2012. The annual talent show features 17 contestants from across Manitoba along with performances by Indian City, Tracy Bone, Sagkeeng's Finest, David St. Germain, Darren Lavallee, Scott Cornelius, Melissa St. Goddard, Gary Lepine, and comedian Paul Rabliauskas. Folk legend and Aboriginal music industry builder Curtis "Shingoose" Jonnie will be inducted to the Manitoba Aboriginal Music Hall of Fame.
- Christa Couture concert in Winnipeg this Saturday! Christa Couture will be in Winnipeg at the Folk Exchange for an intimate performance on Saturday, September 22, 2012. The Vancouver-based songwriter is currently on tour promoting her latest release entitled The Living Record. Vancouver roots/rock/pop duo Redgy Blackout will open the night as well as join Christa for her set.
- The second of two Aboriginal Music Week 2012 festival posters The second of two Aboriginal Music Week 2012 festival posters is done and making the rounds in Winnipeg. The artwork features concert details for each of our five nights along with photos of Tanya Tagaq, Wab Kinew, Samantha Crain, Don Amero, Feenix, Murray Porter, Stevie Salas, Tha Link, Gary Famer, Wayne Lavallee, and Keith Secola.
