- The Beyond Buckskin Lookbook Launch Aboriginal Music Week is partnering with Beyond Buckskin on the launch of their Lookbook during the Reservation Economic Summit (RES) in Las Vegas on March 12, 2013. Music and fashion often go hand-in-hand and we hope that this collaboration will lead to even more innovative and exciting Indigenous fashion events at the festival in the future.
- Six Aboriginal artists earn noms for the 2013 JUNO Awards Six Aboriginal artists have earned nominations for the 2013 JUNO Awards, which are set for Regina, Saskatchewan this April. The announcement was made at a press conference in Toronto, streamed on the CTV.ca website, on February 19. Elisapie, an Inuit songstress from Quebec, is in the running for the Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The Weeknd, Grimes, Kira Isabella, and Cold Specks round out the category.
- "The Best of Aboriginal Music Week" free mixtape now available "The Best of Aboriginal Music Week" mixtape features free music by eight of the amazing artists who have performed at our festival in the last four years. Murray Porter (blues), A Tribe Called Red (pow wow step), Derek Miller (rock), Samian (Francophone hip hop), Cris Derksen (cello), Digging Roots (blues/rock), Don Amero (folk/rock), and Silver Jackson (folk/rock) have provided the songs, which will be available on our website until April 10, 2013. Simply login with your Facebook account at aboriginalmusicweek.ca/downloads to access the files.
- Aboriginal Music Week presenting Melissa St. Goddard at Manitoba Music on Ice Aboriginal Music Week will be one of five festivals and presenters hosting free mini-concerts on Winnipeg's Assiniboine River during the Louis Riel Day weekend this month. The performances are set for Sunday, February 17 from 1 - 4 p.m. and will take place in warming huts along the ice trail. Aboriginal Music Week will be presenting Metis fiddler Melissa St. Goddard, while the West End Cultural Centre has Red Moon Road, the Winnipeg Folk Festival has JD Edwards, the TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival has The Lucas Sader Project, and Festival du Voyageur is presenting Haley Carr.
- DGTL/NVJO joins the Aboriginal Music Week team We're happy to announce that DGTL/NVJO has joined the Aboriginal Music Week team and will be handling the graphic design of our marketing campaign this year. Victor Pascual, an art director, illustrator, graphic designer and overall creative, founded DGTL/NVJO, an Indigenous-owned full service design studio. His work experience includes work for University of Washington, Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, The National Indian Gaming Association, Social Justice Fund Northwest, University of Arizona, Seminole Indian Tribe, Longhouse Media, Native American Rights Fund, National Indian Child Welfare Association and much more.
- Aboriginal Music Manitoba's Alan Greyeyes honoured as Future Leader of Manitoba Aboriginal Music Manitoba's (AMM) chairperson Alan Greyeyes was honoured with the Future Leaders of Manitoba award in the Arts category at a gala event in Winnipeg on Thursday, January 24. The award recognizes and honours a young Manitoban who is quickly making a name for himself/herself in their field, while, at the same time, also making a concerted effort to give back to the community.
- First Nation, Inuit, and Metis artists invading New York City in January Digging Roots, Elisapie, Don Amero, A Tribe Called Red, Martha Redbone, and Tanya Tagaq are set to showcase for presenters from around the globe during the 2013 Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP) conference in New York City this January. The showcases are set for January 10, 11, 12, and 13 at the Lincoln Center, Drom, the National Museum of the American Indian, The Living Room, and Webster Hall, respectively.
- Kinnie Starr "crowdfunding" her new album Kinnie Starr is taking her new album to the people.The iconic emcee/singer/songwriter is asking fans for financial contributions to help her manufacture and market her sixth full length album entitled Kiss It. Contribution levels range from $10 to $10,000, with each amount tied to a number of great benefits.
- Aboriginal Music Week 2012: The week in review Five nights of outstanding performances and amazing collaborations came to a close in the early morning hours of Sunday, November 4, 2012. All told, 5,576 people took in performances by First Nation, Inuit, Métis, Native American, and Indigenous artists from across the continent at the fourth annual Aboriginal Music Week festival.
- Call for Submissions: Rap Recording of the Year at the 2013 JUNO Awards Toronto, ON (October 22, 2012) – The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) announced that the 2013 JUNO Awards is currently accepting submissions in the category of Rap Recording of the Year. For the first time, Canada’s Queen City, Regina, SK will host The 2013 JUNO Awards and JUNO Week celebrations from April 15-21, 2013. The 42nd annual JUNO Awards will be broadcast on CTV from the Brandt Centre on Sunday, April 21, 2013.
